TARGET GROUPS

STATUTE OF THE VICTIM

Indirect victims are all those persons with a close relationship with the direct victim and who also bear the consequences of the action. In terrorism, the number of indirect victims is heterogeneous and extensive. Although in the collective mind these people are observed as subjects who have not directly suffered the damage, suffer short, medium and long term consequences due to the rupture, trauma or loss of emotional bond with the victim of radicalization, attacks or terrorist activities, among others. We can include indirect victims (Echeburúa, Baca Baldomero and Tamarit Sumalla, 2006):

  • People who have collaborated in assistive devices during the attacks, to collect and find corpses, care for the injured or their relatives, among others.

  • Relatives of people who died during a terrorist attack or activity. Those that are geographically separated at the time of the attack are included.

  • Relatives of radicalized people who join violent organizations infringing a family breakdown and the emotional impact on their loved ones.
